Overview
Christina Leonard, APRN, DNP, FNP-C, CNL is a family nurse practitioner, director of the Family Nurse Practitioner program, and associate clinical professor who teaches in MSN and pre-licensure programs at Duke University School of Nursing. She also serves as Assistant Director for the Interprofessional Education and Care Center at Duke. With over 20 years of experience as an educator in academia, Christina brings a wealth of expertise in nursing education and interprofessional collaboration.
She earned her BA in English and Psychology before returning as an ABSN student to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at George Mason University. Christina later received her MSN in Nursing Education from George Mason University. Her passion for providing direct patient care led her to pursue a Post-Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner certificate in 2012 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by certification as a Clinical Nurse Leader. She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at East Carolina University in 2018.
Throughout her career, Christina has championed initiatives to advance interprofessional collaboration and learning. Most recently she collaborated with the IPEC team to create a Duke BLUE IPE Scholars program across health professions.She has practiced since 2012 as a Nurse Practitioner in inpatient cardiology at WakeMed Health and Hospitals. Her teaching and research interests include cardiology, adult health, innovations in education, and expanding interprofessional education opportunities.
